She completed a M.Ed. in Educational Administration at Prairie View A&M University, while serving as a Spanish teacher in the Houston Independent School District (HISD). During her tenure with HISD, she also served as a translator and interpreter for Spanish-speaking families and the school faculty. Dr. Burgess-Brigham also designed and taught a Spanish language professional development course for HISD teachers at a district level. She earned her doctorate at Texas A&M University from the College of Education and Human Development, studying Curriculum and Instruction with a specialty in Second Language Acquisition.
